The popular Barbera vine is widespread in many growing areas in Italy. With a cultivation area of over 20,000 hectares, it is one of the most important varieties in the country. In addition, there are over 4000 hectares overseas. It delivers powerful and structured red wines that, with careful cultivation and development, can achieve astonishing qualitative heights. It also tolerates aging in barriques very well, but does not necessarily need the wood aroma, Barbera from the traditional large wooden barrels can be just as good. However, there is also the other side, if the yield is too high and the wines are not ripe enough, the wines can also be thin and acidic. This is of course not the case with our Barberas.

The origin of this vine is believed to be in north-western Italy, old sources mention Piedmont, where there was talk of a vine called bonis vitibus barbexinis. Italian emigrants spread the Barbera in California and South America. Barbera is often bottled as a single variety, but also plays an important role in cuvées, in Piedmont often together with Nebbiolo.
