The Lazio wine-growing region is located in central Italy, south of Tuscany or Umbria, around the city of Rome. The vineyard area is considerable at 20,500 hectares, the lion's share of around 80% is planted with white varieties, which is unusual for a more southern region.

The most famous wine of Lazio is the white Frascati. Excellent red wines also grow on the volcanic soils of Lazio, mainly from the local Cesanese grape variety, which produces powerful red wines with a stable structure, which also have good aging potential if they are of higher quality. There is still a lot to discover in Lazio.
