The passito method, i.e. drying the berries on the vine or drying them before pressing, is becoming more widespread in Italy. In Piedmont, the Barbera grape variety was chosen for this type of winemaking, which also makes sense, since its tannin and acid structure offers a counterbalance to the fruity sweetness and rosy concentration.

The Vite Colte Spasso Piemonte Rosso Passito consists of 100% Barbera and grows in south-facing locations in Piedmont that have a low water reservoir, which makes drying the Favors grapes on the cane. After a long maceration and after fermentation and 6 months storage in barriques, a wine is obtained that easily reaches the 15% alcohol threshold and has a remarkable density and juiciness.

The Vite Colte Spasso has a dark ruby red color. The scent is open and intense, with notes of ripe fruit and dried plums, there is also a little blackcurrant. On the palate it is very intense, soft and warm, long-lasting and opulent.

A hint so that this delicious wine finds the right target group: Here you can expect strength and even a touch of sweetness in the finale. A powerful semi-dry red wine for friends of the Primitivo or Amarone style. Anyone looking for a traditional Piedmontese Barbera with rough edges is in the wrong place. By the way, this is not meant in a judgmental way. It is clear that Luca Maroni loves this style, he pulls out 97/100 points for the 2019 vintage.
