Vienna is the only European capital where large-scale viticulture is practiced within the city limits. Approx. 620 hectares of vines are planted in the north of the city, the most famous districts are likely to be Grinzing, Nussdorf and Stammersdorf. 640 wine growers produce here and 180 wine taverns called "Heurige" serve their guests with them. The most important white grapes are: Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Welschriesling.
