On the picturesque hills of Piedmont not only the famous red wines Barolo and Barbaresco grow, but also some exciting white wines. The highest honor is given to the Moscato d'Asti, which is awarded with the DOCG status. The native varieties of Arneis and Cortese (Gavi) produce exciting wines, as does the Chardonnay, which can be a fruity white wine or a rich barrique version. Chardonnay is also used for the production of high quality sparkling wines.
