The wine-growing region of Marche borders on the south to the Emilia Romana, east to Tuscany and Umbria and north to Abruzzo. The capital of the region is Ancona. There are 15 DOC and five DOCG zones. The most famous Marche red wine is probably the Rosso Piceno, mainly from Montepulciano grapes, usually with asmaller proportion of other varieties, mostly Sangiovese. Since the wines of the Marche are rather unknown outside the region, you will find excellent wines at very fair prices here.
