The Wittmann Winery in Westhofen / Rheinhessen is one of the best wineries in Germany. Owner Philipp Wittmann is also one of the driving forces who made a significant contribution to the development of the style of modern dry German Riesling.
The Wittmann winery has a long tradition. The family's roots can be traced back to the 17th century. It has been a pure winery since 1921. They are also pioneers when it comes to organic farming. Philipp's father switched to organic farming in 1988, the company has been certified since 1990 and has been biodynamic farmed since 2004.
Today's wines from Wittmann shine with their crystal-clear nature, freshness, elegance, precision and depth. They are perfect representations of their origin and grape variety. Even the estate wines are a lot of fun, and this increases through the local wines and first locations up to the Grosses Gewächs wines from the locations Aulerde, Kirchspiel, Morstein and Brunnenhäuschen, which all of which are among the very best dry Rieslings in Germany.
The Rieslings are matured almost exclusively in traditional wooden barrels, which mature in a deep cellar from 1829. In addition, Wittmann has also made a name for itself in recent years with very successful Burgundy varieties.
Under the name "Immel Biowein", Philipp Wittmann and his cellar master Georg Rieser are bringing a collection of modern drinking wines onto the market that are intended to appeal to a younger audience with their uncomplicated nature. Immel is Philipp's mother's maiden name.
