The Pinot Gris or Grauer Burgunder, as it says on the label, grows on clayey soils in Westhofen in Rhine-Hesse. In keeping with the style of the Witmann Winery, great emphasis is also placed on freshness and elegance when it comes to the Burgundy varieties.
The cultivation takes place according to biodynamic principles, the harvest is done by hand and the aging takes place in large traditional wooden barrels. A thoroughly handcrafted white wine of high quality.
The warm 2022 vintage produced wines with charm that have tasted delicious since bottling. By the way, Philipp Wittmann's estate wines or estate wines don't have to be drunk young. They last for a few years in the bottle, provided they are stored properly.
Aromatically, this Wittmann wine is reminiscent of ripe apples with a hint of exotic fruit (pineapple?). On the palate it is of medium weight, it is pleasantly lively and stimulating, you always feel like drinking more. Perfectly balanced in an elegant Pinot Gris style.
The Gray Burgundy Estate is a culinary all-rounder. It goes well with many dishes, fish, vegetables, white meat or even pasta dishes such as carbonara, mushroom dishes and much more.
