Julien Schaal, actually a sommelier by profession, began making wine in South Africa in 2001, and then started working in his homeland in Alsace in 2011. Up until the 2019 vintage, he only bottled Riesling from Grand Cru vineyards; from 2020, other varieties such as Gewürztraminer and Pinot Noir will also be in the range.
The press celebrates Julien Schaal as a new top winemaker in Alsace. The wine enthusiast, for example, awarded spectacular 96/100 points for the Riesling Kastelberg 2019. Julien now sells his wines all over the world with great success. The bottle prices are still very modest, so these wines are an absolute tip!
