Alsatian Pinot Gris is often richer than wines of this variety from other wine regions in the world. This is mostly due to the high ripeness of the grapes when the berries are harvested and the usually somewhat higher residual sugar in the dry area than is the case with this variety in Germany or Italy.
The Sophie Schaal Pinot Gris is such a representative, it shines with creamy fullness and yet also aromatic clarity, the wine has a lot of body and is silky on the palate. The wine is harvested by hand and then pressed as whole grapes, which gives the later wine a touch of tannin that structures the wine pleasantly.
This Alsace Pinot Gris smells of ripe pears and quinces, with a subliminal hint of cinnamon. On the palate it combines fruit notes with spicy notes, everything ends in the long-lasting and balanced finale. A gem.
Sophie Schaal recommends this wine especially with Spanish jamon or matured Gouda. That whets the appetite while reading.
