Markus Altenburger from Jois, northwest of the Neusiedlersee, produces his wines with the least possible influence. He doesn't use selected yeasts and make no fining with the wines to keep the expression of the terroir as authentic as possible. The vineyards are being converted to organic farming at the moment. All this creates complex and long-lasting wines from the vines Chardonnay and Blaufränkisch from the limestone and slate soils around Jois, which are among the best in the region. Markus Altenburger, together with some other winemakers, produces the "Club Batonnage", an extremely good and rare cult wine, known for its distinctive label with the red scorpion.
