The vines for this wine were given the name "Helden" (=Heroes) in 2014, when they braved hail in spring and torrential rain in early September. The name is therefore still on the back label of this Blaufränkisch Leithaberg DAC.
The large temperature fluctuations on the Leithaberg between day and night give the Blaufränkisch a> a particularly delicate and fresh note. Markus Altenburger matures his Blaufränkisch in tonneaux (500L wooden barrels) for 20 months. This slow maturation gives the wine its final complexity. What we particularly like about this wine is its racy herbal spice. In the excellent red wine year 2019, a fine and concentrated Leithaberg DAC was created with a beautiful play of aromas reminiscent of dark berries, orange peel and cherries.
Falstaff magazine rates this wine with 93/100 points and mentions aromas such as cherries, wild berries, liquorice and nuts. The palate is described as juicy and complex, silky tannins, fresh and persistent.
