In 1969, wine merchant Jean Gautreau became a Château owner, when he bought Chateau Sociando-Mallet. From the run down estate with just 5 hectares of vines and without a cellar, he has made over the years a showpiece with a great fan base all over the world. Sociando-Mallet won cult status when its 1990 vintage won the Bordeaux tasting of the Grand Jury Européen against 23 of the best chateaux. With the 1996 vintage he repeated this success! Jean Gautreau has left the association of Cru Bourgeois, since his wine is more likely to be of a troiseme or even deuxieme Cru Classé.
Chateau Sociando-Mallet is a very long-lived and powerful tannic wine. After a long time in the bottle, it develops its full potential and enchant the patient connoisseur with all its density and complexity.
