Wine from England may sound a bit strange to many wine connoisseurs. Anyone who has tried the Nyetimber sparkling wines will lose their skepticism and enthusiasm will spread - that's a promise.
The Nyetimber wine project began in 1988 when the first vines were planted on the agricultural estate, which has been in existence since 1086. The calcareous soils and the climate are reminiscent of Champagne, so it was obvious to plant the same grape varieties here in West Sussex. In 2006 Eric Heerema bought the estate in order to professionally start producing sparkling wine. Under the direction of head winemaker Cherie Spriggs, sparkling wines of world class format are created here. At Nyetimber, the goal of competing with the best Sparkling wines in the world is formulated with great self-confidence, and one has to admit without envy that it succeeds. These wines are extremely fine and clear, the perlage is elegant and the cool and fresh style is very reminiscent of the French model. So is the price, but that is absolutely justified for this quality. Try these (still) exotic wines, it's worth it.
