The Niersteiner Riesling from Wittmann is a wonderful wine full of depth, character and breed. It comes from the GG locations Orbel and Ölberg on Roten Hang in Nierstein. Therefore, it is actually underclassified as a "first vineyard", but as a cuvée from two vineyards it cannot legally be GG.

Elaborate manual work in the vineyards, low yields and meticulous selection of the grapes are the guarantees for this impressive quality. On top of that, the passion and ability of Philipp Wittmann and his cellar master Georg Rieser, who simply make the difference.

The 2022 Niersteiner Riesling from the Wittmann winery has an exciting scent that is reminiscent of currants, grapefruit, fresh herbs and mussels. The sharp minerality and the wonderful draw with very good extract ignite on the palate. A lot happens on the palate, the very long finish ends with a lot of pull and salty minerality. Stunning! Certainly one of the best Rieslings "first groth" in the 2022 vintage. If you don’t buy it, you’re missing out.

James Suckling rates this wine a 94/100. Quote: "Quite an exotic nose with hints of Thai basil coming through. Quite a firmly structured wine, the restrained citrus and berry fruit carrying this harmonious dry Riesling that has a wonderful interplay of fruit, lees creaminess and stony acidity. A cuvee of wines from the Ölberg and Orbel GG sites." – Stuart Pigott, James Suckling
