Touriga Nacional is the flagship variety among Portugal's red wine grapes. It is excellently adapted to this warm southern European country as it tolerates drought and heat well, which was particularly important in the hot year of 2017. Consequently, Quinta do Noval dedicated its own bottling to it as a dry red wine.
The grapes come from the in-house vineyard around the winery in the Douro Valley. This intense red wine is aged in French barriques, of which around a third are renewed per harvest.
The Touriga Nacional Vintage 2017 is one of the highest rated Touriga Nacionals from Quinta do Noval by Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. Taster Mark Squires gives it a euphoric 94/100 and believes it will develop positively into the year 2040. He praises the structure and concentration, as well as the exceptional finesse on the palate and the powerful and very long finish.
The 2017 vintage received 35% new French wood during the ten-month aging, giving it a subtle spice. This outstanding vintage has reached its first phase of maturity and can already be drunk with great pleasure.
