The Sauvignon Blanc "The Gooseberry Bush" by Bon Courage Estate grows in Robertson, ca. 150 km east of Cape Town. It has a wonderful intensity in the fragrance, very reminiscent of gooseberries, which led to the name. There are also ripe tropical fruits like passion fruit and guava, as well as some freshly mown grass. It is lively on the palate, with an astonishing freshness, here too the fruit is very intense, just as Sauvignon Blanc lovers like it. No wooden barrel is used in order to emphasize the clarity of the fruit. In order to intensify the structure, however, the wine is left longer on the lees before bottling.

It is an excellent accompaniment to goat cheese, seafood, poultry (lemon chicken!), summer salads (also with fruit) and vegetable dishes. It is best to drink it young when the overwhelming fruit is still full of juice.

Like all wines from the Bon Courage series from the Bruwer family, the Gooseberry Bush is a real bargain. You have to find so much magnificent Sauvignon Blanc for less than 7 € a bottle elsewhere.
