The Antinori winery Castello della Sala is located in Umbria, in the Orvieto wine-growing region. After the great successes of the winery with Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, the next challenge was to raise the traditional Orvieto to new qualitative spheres. In 1990 the Orvieto Classico Superiore called San Giovanni della Sala.
was bornAntinori adds smaller proportions of Pinot Bianco and Viognier to the traditional Grechetto and Procanico grape varieties to increase substance and aroma. It is matured in steel tanks, in which the wine rests on the fine lees for a long time.
When young, San Giovanni della Sala has a light straw yellow color with slightly greenish reflections. The scent is reminiscent of ripe citrus fruits, delicate floral notes and white fruits such as apples and pears. This Orvieto has very good fullness and structure, but is always lively and invigorating. Great class, typical Antinori.
The best way to drink this first-class Orvieto is with fish and crustaceans, vegetables and white meat.
