You could actually describe the Rebholz Riesling vom Rotliegenden as the second wine of the Grosses Gewächs from Kastanienbusch, because it comes from this perhaps best location on the southern wine route. Rotliegendes refers to soils of volcanic origin with a high iron content, which gives them the red color.
For the Rebholz Riesling vom Rotliegenden, grapes from the Rotlegen are taken from younger vines as well as from earlier harvested lots. This wine doesn't quite have the depth and extract to be suitable as a Grosses Gewächs, but you get more than two bottles for the price of the GG. That makes this wine highly attractive.
