The Saint-Joseph rouge from Pierre Gaillard grows on granite soils in the three municipalities of Malleval, Chavanay and Sarras. Practically everything in these steep vineyards is handcrafted in order to harvest the best quality Syrah. The wine is stored in used barriques for fifteen months. The aim is to preserve a delicate woody tone, but not to obscure the primary characteristics of the wine.

The scent of the Gaillard Saint-Joseph is reminiscent of a basket of ripe red fruits, a hint of cinnamon and some pepper. On the palate it impresses with its juicy fullness and at the same time wonderful precision in the tannins, which give this wine a drinkable freshness.

2021 was a cool year with fresh and attractively elegant wines reminiscent of the vintages of the 1980s and 1990s. The straightforward nature of these Syrah wines from the master hand of Pierre Gaillard impresses. Get involved, it's worth it.

The wine magazine / online portal DECANTER rates this wine with an excellent 92/100 points and writes: "Very fragrant, with star anise, sandalwood, incense and Szechuan pepper all emerging from the glass. Medium-bodied, with good acidity, and nice freshness on the palate. The oak work is robust, but it does make for a fascinating and distinctive wine. The tannins are quite present and will need time to settle. Should be very good in time, but the strict tannins will take their toll time."
