Saint-Joseph Blanc, Pierre Gaillard: rich white wine from one of the top wineries in the northern Rhône.

The unusual thing about Pierre Gaillard's Saint-Joseph Blanc is the fact that this wine only consists of the Roussanne grape variety and is not, as usual, a cuvée of this with Marsanne. The vines, which are around 30 years old, grow in the municipalities of Malleval and Chavanay in the AOP Saint-Joseph, which is located on the west bank of the Rhône, south of Corndrieu.

The sandy granite soils have a southeasterly orientation and are mainly worked by hand. After the harvest, the white Saint-Jospeh is fermented in barriques, where it is then stored on the fine yeast for another nine months until it is ready for bottling.

The complex scent of Gaillard Saint-Joseph Blanc reveals notes of yellow stone fruit, as well as pastries and honeydew melon. Its opulent softness and fullness delight on the palate, just as you would expect from a top-class white North Rhône wine. The long finish is also characterized by a certain freshness that gives the wine excitement and makes you want more.

Enjoy this characterful white wine best with shellfish, firm fish, white meat or baked fennel. As they become more ripe, mushroom dishes are also an excellent choice.
