The world's best wines from the Viognier grape variety come from the AOP Condrieu. This variety, which is now widespread around the world, also comes from there. The Gaillard family owns five hectares of vines here, which are located on steep slopes with soil containing granite. The orientation is ideal to the south and southeast, the cool winds from the north provide the necessary coolness to give the wine finesse. Of course, everything is harvested here by hand.
The Condrieu Pierre Gaillard is aged for nine months in used barriques. This ensures only a delicate woody note that does not get in the way of the intense character of the Viognier. This elegant, present and complex wine has a scent of tropical fruits, peach and acacia blossom. On the palate it is impressively full, soft and opulent, but also subtle thanks to its very long and mineral finish.
We like Condrieu best when he is in full swing, i.e. in the first 4 years of his life. Even if it can be stored for longer, it usually doesn't benefit from it.
This intense wine calls for strong partners at the table. A festive roast poultry from the oven, game dishes and Asian dishes (not too spicy) also go well.
