The Forty Years Old Port is the oldest tawny blend from Quinta do Noval. It used to be called "Over" 40 Years old Tawny, but that's no longer on the label today.
The average age of the wines used here is 40 years. This port wine has an enormous concentration due to the long time in wooden barrels, as well as a wonderful aromatic complexity with a lot of play and great length on the palate. An elixir.
The grape varieties used are the native red wine vines of the Douro Valley such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinto Cão, Sousão and Tinta Roriz. These are traditionally pounded with feet in the traditional flat stone troughs, the Lagares, in order to get the best extraction from the berries.
This is how this special and precious port wine is created with its overwhelming aromas reminiscent of walnuts, dried fruits and undergrowth. Thanks to the long maturation period, the 40 Years Tawny has the best balance of structure and subtle sweetness.
