The dry Riesling clay slate from the Hermann Dönnhoff winery comes from hillsides around the Leistenberg in Oberhausen an der Nahe. Here, grey-black slate dominates the soil and gives the Rieslings a subtle and playful nature. The vines for this wine are between 25 and 45 years old, and the yield is relatively low at 45 hl/ha.
The Riesling slate is aged in stainless steel tanks and large traditional wooden barrels.
The 2022 edition of this dry Riesling from Dönnhoff is more charming than its predecessor, the warm year gives the wine notes of ripe citrus fruits, plus a fine herbal note, all underpinned by mineral depth. On the palate it has brilliant clarity and beautiful freshness, the wine has good extract and runs harmoniously through to the long finish.
