The Cuvee des Cadettes from Chateau la Nerthe is a classic among the ultra-premium bottlings in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. While most of these top selections from other wineries were created in the 1980s and 1990s, the Cuvée des Cadettes was made at the end of the 19th century. This is not the only area in which Château la Nerthe is a pioneer, because the wines have been cultivated organically since 1998, when many did not even think of something like this.

The Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée des Cadettes 2017 is composed of 59% Grenache Noir, 31% Syrah and 10% Mourvèdre, the vines are up to eighty years old. The selection of the suitable grapes takes place before fermentation, the berries are tasted and then a decision is made for or against the tried plots. Also rather rare, at la Nerthe all three grape varieties are fermented together. The wine then matures for twelve months in large and small wooden barrels. You take your time at Chateau la Nerthe. The red Chateauneuf-du-Pape from the winery are only sold several years after bottling, which is why you can always enjoy wines that are already ready to drink.

The bouquet of the 2017 Chateau la Nerthe Cuvée des Cadettes is reminiscent of black cherries, plums and cedar wood, of course it also has the typical Garrigeu spice of herbs that is characteristic of Mediterranean Grenache wines. The taste is characterized by the fullness and depth of the old vines, with all the richness it also has a certain freshness and is equipped with a good tannin structure, which keeps the wine lively and makes it animating. The decidedly long finale is an unmistakable indication of a top-quality wine.

The 2017 Cuvee des Cadettes received a respectable 94/100 from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. Taster Joe Czerwinski describes it as "Full-bodied, rich and velvety, it finishes long and soft."
