The Mailly champagne is produced in the small town of the same name in Champagne. Mailly is classified as Grand Cru. The champagne house, thirteen kilometers south of the city of Reims, was founded around a hundred years ago. In the midst of the world economic crisis, which was a consequence of the First World War, some winegrowers joined forces to sell the resulting harvest surplus as wine to champagne houses. Although the growing area of the vines is one of the few places classified as Grand Cru, they did not find a buyer for a long time. This persuaded the residents of Mailly to set up a cooperative and take production and marketing into their own hands.
Champagne Mailly Grand Cru Extra Brut consists of the best grapes from the seventy-five hectares of vineyards. This Grand Cru Extra Brut from the excellent 2012 vintage was made from the grape varieties Pinot Noir (75%) and Chardonnay (25%). Particularly good base wines with mature acidity are selected for this particularly dry champagne variant. It combines its pleasant dryness with aromatic complexity and finesse. It is recommended to enjoy this champagne with sushi, seafood or fish, of course it is also an excellent aperitif.
