The name Cedro comes from the large cedar that adorns the terrace of Quinta do Noval. The red Cedro do Noval consists of the Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão grape varieties native to the Douro. There is also around 20 percent Syrah, a vine that is known to thrive in warm growing zones and gives the wine aromatic complexity and the finishing touch.
All grape varieties are vinified separately and only married to this magnificent Douro after ten months of aging in barriques. 2021 was also a relatively cool year in Portugal with very attractive wines that have a nice grip and remarkable freshness, as the Cedro do Noval impressively confirms. Quinta do Noval is one of the very good vintages in 2021.
The Cedro Tinto has a dark color, which already indicates the density of this magnificent wine. The scent is reminiscent of ripe berries, cocoa, vanilla and Mediterranean herbs. The taste impresses with its astonishing precision and freshness, the lush fruit and alcohol attack of many Douro wines is completely absent here, the Cedro do Noval is extremely drinkable, as the tannins give a beautiful structure and freshness to the long finish. A Portuguese top wine that shows its origins and excellent winemaking. Can be drunk young, but also ages very well in the bottle.
