2021 is the first vintage of white Duero Reserva from Quinta do Noval. The Viosinho and Gouveio grape varieties used here are probably practically unknown even to experienced wine lovers outside of Portugal. From these old varieties of the Douero Valley, Quinta do Noval prepares this phenomenal white wine full of character, which has the natural substance to easily integrate the fermentation in 50% new and 50% one-year-old barriques and the associated wood intensity into the brilliant extract.
2021 was also a cooler year in the Douro region, which played into the cards for the freshness of the white wines. The Douro Reserva Branco is a complex white wine that can age like a white Burgundy. Now it is of course a question of taste whether you prefer the opulent style of warm years or the fine blade of the cooler year 2021. Of course, this vintage is also rich in substance and powerful, but it has more structure and a lot of finesse, which is not always the case in warm Portugal year is the case. We particularly like this vintage. It will certainly mature very well and for a long time.
