The Tschida / Angerhof winery from Illmitz am Neusiedlersee has won seven (!) titles "Sweet Wine Maker of the Year" at the London Wine Challenge in the last twelve years (as of spring 2022). Here sweet and noble sweet wine is produced in the typical style of the Seewinkel at a very high level and sold at extremely fair prices. The price-benefit ratio can without exaggeration be described as sensational.
Red wines are very rarely in the high predicate range, since the noble rot affects the skin of the grapes and thus destroys the colour. With the BA red, the Tschidas have managed to produce such a rarity, as the must weight was very high even without much botrytis (noble rot). Of course, that doesn't work every year, but it did in 2022.
The 2022 BA red by Tschida has a rather light red color, which suggests a certain botrytis infestation. The scent contains aromas such as honey, pine needles, strawberries, cherries and a light cocoa tone. The taste shows a juicy-sweet fullness and a gripping acidity as a counterpart, which gives the wine a wonderful balance. It's structured and rich in substance, but not sticky in the long-lasting finish.
As an accompaniment to food, we recommend this Beerenauslese with intense hard cheese (e.g. a Comté that has matured for a long time), not too sweet cakes, nuts or even foie gras.
