In addition to the cool locations in Spitz, the Gritsch family also owns a plot in the warmer Loiben, in the first-class Loibenberg location, which produces particularly full and juicy wines due to its purely southern exposure. The Loibenberg is certainly one of the very best terroirs in the Wachau. Aromatically, the Loibenberg Grüner Veltliner Smaragd usually has citrus notes and tobacco.
In the warm year of 2022, the Gritsch Smaragd Veltliner from Loibenberg has a substantial 13.5% alcohol, as the grapes reached a high level of ripeness in this top location.
