In addition to the cool locations in Spitz, the Gritsch family also owns a parcel in warmer Loiben, in the first-class location Loibenberg, which is characterized by its purely southern orientation produces full and juicy wines. The Loibenberg is certainly one of the very best terroirs in the Wachau. Aromatically, citrus notes and tobacco are usually found in the Loibenberg Grüner Veltliner Smaragd.

In the warm 2022 vintage, the Gritsch Smaragd Veltliner from Loibenberg has a whopping 14% alcohol, as the grapes reached a high level of maturity in this top location. Unfortunately, there are no current ratings yet, Falstaff magazine awards 95-97/100 points to the 2021 model. You can look forward to the 22.

Wine professor Benulf Bruckner describes the 2021 Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Loibenberg as follows: fragrant start, tree blossoms, yeast pastries, asparagus, some Earl Gray, behind it a lot of ripe fruit, white pears, tangerines, pineapple; creamy-melty texture, voluminous, flows smoothly and mouth-filling over the palate, but remains clear and finely nuanced with all the opulence with a polyphonic, harmonious final chord.
