The Chablis 1er Cru location Vaulorent is something special. It is the only 1er Cru location that borders directly on the Grand Cru locations, north of the Bougros. It is also a sub-location of Fourchaume, although the two are not even directly connected. This means that winemakers can declare the Vaulorent as Fourchaume on the label, which is often done due to the fame of the Fourchaume. Due to its location, it is often referred to as the eighth Grand Cru of Chablis.

The name Vaulorent is probably a combination of Vau (Old French for vallée = valley) and the name of the previous owner: Laurent. 2021 is a classic Chablis year. The wines combine freshness, density and complexity with an impressive clarity and precision. The Vaulorent 1er Cru from Billaud-Simon has an enchanting aroma of citrus fruits and pear, as well as light roasted notes. On the palate it is very powerful and long, the salty minerality is very stimulating, the wine is fresh and very vital and demanding. A great Chablis for now or in a few years.

The wine magazine Decanter gives the Vaulorent 2021 92/100 and sees it on the same level as the 2020.
