Montee de la Tonnere is considered one of the best 1er Cru vinyards in Chablis. It is located near the Grand Crus and is, so to speak, the eastern extension of the Grand Cru slope in Chablis. The wines there have an unusual depth and dashing minerality, their complexity is reminiscent of a Grand Cru.
Billaud-Simon has old vines in this prime vineyard, the Chardonnay vines here are on average 45 years old. With just over two hectares owned, around 12,000 bottles are produced per year in regular vintages. 2018 resulted in a rather charming Montée de la Tonnerre, which still shows its typical minerality. It is easy to grip and still leaves a full impression on the palate. You can enjoy it young, even if it will probably only blossom fully 4-5 years after the harvest.
