The Cabernet Sauvignon "Tributo" from Caliterra grows in the Colchagua Valley, on clay soils interspersed with granite and quartz. The climate there is Mediterranean and characterized by cool nights, which contribute to the formation of aromas in the grapes. An ideal location for growing red grape varieties. As usual with Caliterra, small amounts of other grapes are also included here, in this case some Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. 16% of the harvest was even fermented in barrels, the rest in steel tanks, using only naturally occurring yeasts. This Cabernet was aged for 12 months in French barriques, 7% of which were new.
The Tributo line is above Caliterra's Reserva line. The name means homage to the quality of the vineyards and the people involved, who come together to create the best wines.
It is a wonderful example of a lively and intense Cabernet, full of spicy cassis fruit and blackberries, some cinnamon, coffee and tobacco leaves can also be found in its bouquet. On the palate it has substance, lots of fruit intensity, volume and a long finish in which the soft tannins form the corset. Chilean Cabernet at its best!
