Valpolicella in Veneto (Italian = Veneto) adjoins Bardolino to the east, but is usually hillier, which means that the vines have better drainage and higher sun exposure, which promotes ripeness and quality. Therefore, the Valpolicella is usually stronger and more intense than its neighbor.
The grape varieties here are Corvina Veronese, Corvinone and Rondinella, while the top producer Zenato adds a small amount of Sangiovese to the Valpolicella Superiore, which intensifies the structure. The wine grows on predominantly terraced sites and is harvested by hand, which raises it above the masses of boring Valpolicella wines. After fermentation, the Zenato Valpolicella Superiore was stored in large traditional wooden barrels, where it received its perfect finish after about twelve months.
This enchanting Valpolicella has a bright ruby red colour. The scent is reminiscent of cherries, wild herbs and dark berries. On the palate it finds the balance between power and softness, it is medium-bodied and has good substance in the finish. This is where the whole skill of the Zenato team shows. Try this animating red wine with game poultry, white and dark meat, everything grilled and pizza, pasta & Co. are also appropriate.
