Actually, the Mourvedre at Tablas Creek, which belonged to the Perrin family, is intended for the Cuvée Esprit de Tablas. However, this vine often performs so well that an additional varietal bottling has now been decided on 16 times.
The Tablas Creek Mourvedre 2019 from Paso Robles/California has the typical spicy and dark nose of the Mouvedre, which is reminiscent of ripe blackberries, plums, herbs and elderberries. On the palate it is intense and grippy and, despite all its fullness and power, it is also very subtle. A storage period of 15 years should not be a problem for this wine.
The press is enthusiastic, the Wine Enthusiast gives the 2019 Tablas Creek Mouvedre 94/100, Parker's Wine Advocate is at 93/100 and praises the dark berry fruit and the earthy herbal nose, as well as the grainy tannins and the complex finish. There were just under 6,000 bottles of this rare wine.
As a typical Rhône Ranger representative, this rich red wine calls for intense dishes as a companion, braised dishes, everything from the grill and spicy hard cheese are primarily suitable.
