Boekenhoutskloof is one of the best wineries in South Africa. In 2012 and 2020 it was named Winery of the Year in South Africa by influential wine critic John Platter.
Boekenhoutskloof's Porcupine Ridge series is the estate's most popular everyday wine, named after the porcupines that live around the farm. Syrah grows in Swartland, South Africa, a region famous for this grape variety. Swartland Syrah is characterized by a note of violet. Two thirds of it was aged in French oak barriques, with the emphasis here clearly being on the fruit, not on the wooden barrel.
The Porcupine Ridge Syrah has the typical Syrah pepper scent, reminiscent of ripe plums, violets and spices such as cinnamon and cloves. On the palate it has a remarkable intensity, is voluminous and round, the tannins are very gentle, a Syrah with a lot of charm. The magazine DECANTER rated the 2020 Porcupine Syrah with an incredible 94/100 points (not yet rated in 2021 and 2022). A top value!
