With all the grape varieties he cultivates, Hanspeter Ziereisen is at the forefront. For Syrah, however, he is the unmatched top in Germany. Stylistically, the Gestad Syrah is comparable to the northern Rhône, "Cool Climate" Syrah at its finest, elegance and structure without neglecting fullness.
The first-class vintage 2020 with its great maturity and still impressive clarity is simply unbelievably good. Typical is the particularly long barrel aging at Ziereisen, the Gestad was in barriques for a full 22 months, around a fifth of which were new. Aromatically, the Gestad Syrah 2020 is reminiscent of pepper, herbs, cloves and dark berries, and a slightly floral note is also noticeable. On the palate it is like a line, crystal clear, more precise, long, fresh and calm. It still needs two to three years in the bottle to show its full potential.
