Schulen is a particularly good parcel in the Efringer Ölberg. It has a calcareous soil with a layer of loess and loam, as is known from the best soils in Burgundy. Consequently, there is Pinot Noir here, planted in 1970 and 1995, which produces a wine with a thoroughly Burgundian character.

The aromas go in the direction of dark berries, elderberry and black cherries, along with the fine wood. Intrusive strawberry aroma, which is unfortunately not uncommon in German Pinots, is not to be found here at all. The harvest is of course done by hand here, the fermentation spontaneously, only with the naturally present yeasts. After twenty months of aging in 225 liter barrels, around 10% of which were new, the Schulen is bottled, where it can continue to mature for many years if you let it.

According to Hanspeter Ziereisen, 2020 is the best Pinot Noir Schulen he has ever made. Falstaff is at 93/100 for the 2019, unfortunately there is no note for 2020 yet.
