The Sauvignon Blanc Fumé comes from the oldest vineyards of this variety from the Landerer winery, which were planted in Oberrotweiler Kirchberg in 1994. Fermentation takes place here spontaneously, i.e. only with the naturally present yeasts. The wine is then aged in barriques and tonneaux (500L barrels), where it lies on the fine yeast, which gives additional structure and tension. A clear wooden tone is desired in this wine, 50% of the barrels are new and 50% second use.
The location of the Sauvignon Blanc Fumé is not on the label, as the focus here is on other properties. The style of this complex white wine is somewhere between a Loire Sauvignon and a white Bordeaux. It has a clear but equally noble barrique tone, which is like a wine made from a single source, aromatic, full of intensity, but also calm, perfectly balanced. Impressive!
James Suckling awards the 2022 Landerer Sauvignon Fumé an impressive 93/100, which I call “sophisticated”. “complex” and “clean” even recommends not drinking the wine until 2025. That's not easy because it already tastes so wonderful.
