The Domaine Paul Prieur is considered a specialist for red Sancerre. Luc Prieur knows about the potential of Pinot Noir in this wine region and produces beautiful Loire Pinots that are among the best in the region.

What is little known is that at the beginning of the 19th century the region around Sancerre was predominantly planted with Pinot Noir. Around 1900 it was 50%, today it is 10%. Today's warmer climate plays into the hands of the red wines and so you can expect a lot more from here.

Paul Prieur produces around 30,000 bottles of his red Sancerre per year. 50% of this matures in 228L Burgundy barrels, of which around 7% are new, the other half comes from large wooden barrels. The vines grow below Mont Damnes in a plot called Les Pichons.

The substance-rich 2019 vintage was ideal for the red wines of the Loire. The Paul Prieur et Fils Sancerre rouge combines finesse and substance, the wine is lively and very stimulating, its aromas are reminiscent of red berries, cherries and herbs. Freshness, clarity and finesse characterize it on the palate. A very subtle and independent Pinot Noir. Not a copy of anything, but really individual and high-class.
