The premium red wine in the Paul Prieur et Fils winery is the Sancerre Les Pichons, which grows on limestone marl soils below Mont Damnes. Here the Pinot Noir finds the necessary warmth to fully ripen and produce a red wine with finesse and depth. The aromatic complexity and density comes not least from the very old vines that were planted in the 1950s. The wine is fermented without the addition of sulfur and is neither fined nor filtered before bottling.
2021 was a vintage of finesse. The Domaine Paul Prieur Sancerre les Pichons has aromas that are reminiscent of red berries and cherries, plus fine barrique notes and a hint of herbs. The taste combines freshness and substance, it is more elegant than the very warm years before, has a playful fruit and soft tannins, which still provide enough grip for drinking fun.
As always, this vintage of Sancerre Les Pichons from Paul Prieur needs a certain amount of time in the bottle to show its full potential. 10 years in the bottle shouldn't be a problem for him. Total production only around 2,500 bottles per year.
