The Sancerre vineyard Pieuchaud has a clayey soil with flints, which is often referred to as Silex on the Loire. It is located in the south of the AOC Sancerre, in the village of Thauvenay.

As this vineyard has always produced particularly good grapes, Luc Prieur decided a few years ago to vinify them separately. The Pieuchaud wines are characterized by high maturity without sacrificing the stimulating acidity and salty minerality that characterize a Sancerre. The Pieuchaud Silex fromPaul Prieur et Fils is aged for fifteen months at 80% in large wooden barrels and 20% in 600 liter tonneaux, which provide a hint of wood spice.

Luc Prieur also shows his extraordinary skills with this bottling. Due to the ripe year, the 2020 Silex has a delicately exotic fruit, underlined by the note of flint and a hint of vanilla. It is precise and clear on the palate, powerful in the middle and with freshness and finesse in the long finish. Excellent!

The production volume of Pieuchaud is just around 5,000 bottles per vintage. The 2020 vintage was produced according to organic principles; from the 2022 vintage, the organic certification will be in force and on the label.
