The Sancerre Blanc from the Domaine Paul Prieur et Fils comes from the three most important soil formations in the growing area. 40% of the Sauvignon Blanc grapes grow on Cailottes, the typical pebble soil, 40% on Silex, the flint soil and 20% on the calcareous soil Terres Blanches >. This is how Luc Prieur achieves the best of these plots, which together produce a very typical Sancerre with its cool and clear aromas.
We find the very delicate roasted tone of this wine very attractive, because 5% of the harvest ends up in new wood, the rest is fermented and aged completely wood-free in steel tanks. This way you achieve a delicate spice and a little more structure. A class Sancerre with grip, elegance and extract, which shows all the skill and sensitivity of its makers.
Jim Budd, author of DECANTER, rates Paul Prieur's 2022 Sancerre with 90/100 points and writes: "Grapefruit, pineapple and lemon are the flavor columns in this alluring wine, which shows good concentration of fruit in the mouth allied with crisp acidity. It will be good to drink young but also should happily keep for at least five to eight years, while you wait for the Monts Damnés to be ready. The grapes are hand picked and vinification is in a mix of tank and 600-liter oak barrels. This fine 19-hectare domaine is based in the upper part of Verdigny. It is now run by Didier, Luc and Philippe Prieur with the talented Luc, who studied in Beaune, in charge of vinification."
