Saintayme is a 9-hectare estate in Saint-Emilion (Bordeaux) classified as Grand Cru. It is run by Denis Durantou and his daughters Constance and Noemie, who are also responsible for the spectacular wines of Chateau l'Eglise-Clinet in Pomerol.
The vineyard is in one piece and almost exclusively planted with Merlot, there are also a few Cabernet Franc vines here, but they are not significant in percentage terms. The estate is located in Saint Etienne de Lisse, home of the famous Château Valandraud, and has very suitable limestone, clay and gravel soils such as those found in the best terroirs in Saint-Emilion. These excellent conditions, the skills of Constance and Noemie Durantou, who have been running Saintayme alone since 2020, as well as the relatively unknown winery, result in a remarkable price-benefit ratio, which of course will have an even greater impact in the exceptionally good year 2020.< /p>
The Wine Cellar Insider writes of the best vintage he has tasted of this wine and rates it at 92/100. The magazine Decanter has the same rating from two independent tasters, Jan Anson praises the firm tannins and the tension, Georgina Hindle likes the refinement and precision of the 2020 Saintayme.
