The Chaponnière vineyard in the north of the AOP Rully takes its name from the Burgundian term Chapons, which means something like seedlings. Its clay-limestone soil in the middle of the east-facing slope is ideal for growing Pinot Noir. The already low yield of the vines, which are on average 40 years old, is further limited by strict pruning in order to achieve the best grape quality.

2020 was a picture-perfect vintage for red Burgundies. The wines combine strength and freshness at a very high level, which can only be achieved in the very best years. The Rully Chaponnière 2020 from Domaine Belleville has a bright burgundy red color, rather dark for a Pinot Noir. The scent flows openly from the glass and is reminiscent of red berries, delicate toasted notes and some vanilla. In the mouth it is full and juicy, but always fresh and complex, the balanced finish is long-lasting with a good bite. This charming Burgundy from the Côte Chalonnais should develop well in the bottle for a few years.
