Ruché Laccento from Montalbera: An exciting red wine from a very rare grape variety.

The origin of the Ruchè grape variety, which is only grown on around 100 hectares, does not seem to be entirely certain. Analyzes show a relationship to Malvasia and Croatina, presumably it is a natural cross.

The Ruché Laccento from Montalbera comes from grapes grown in the municipality of Castagnole Monferrato, in Piedmont. Since 2011, this origin has even been classified as DOCG, the highest quality designation in the Italian wine hierarchy. Montalbera was the first winery to receive 3 glasses in Gambero Rosso with the Ruchè grape variety.

The Ruché Laccento is a powerful and elegant wine with a complex aroma. It has a deep dark color and an intense scent of black cherries, plums and spices. On the palate it is soft and juicy, with a fine tannin structure. It gets its silky fullness from the proportion of overripe grapes of around 20%. However, Montalbera forgoes the high residual sugar content of many modern Italian wines and makes this wine pleasantly dry.

The Ruché Laccento is an ideal accompaniment to intense dishes such as red meat, stews, game or cheese. Of course it also tastes great on its own.
