The Altenburg vineyard in Wachenheim is the coolest P.C. location in the portfolio of Weingut Dr. Bürklin-Wolf as it faces east. Due to climate change, this is becoming more and more of an advantage, because while in other vineyards the vines are still brooding in the heat of the afternoon sun, the Riesling in Altenburg is allowed to cool down in the shade. Bürklin-Wolf managing director Steffen Brahner remarks that this vineyard has improved a lot in recent years. In addition, this location is very flexible in terms of harvest time, as the grapes remain healthy here for a very long time.

The 2021 vintage, characterized by classic coolness, and the rather cool vineyard led to a very precise and straightforward Riesling P.C., whose dashing minerality and clarity inspire. The Altenburg Riesling 2021 is hardly fruity, it has a noticable but mature acidity and only 2.5 grams of residual sugar, resulting in a bone-dry taste. The very fine blade for Riesling purists. We would give it time to round off until 2024/25 in the bottle until it reaches perfect maturity. This very fine Riesling will have a long life.
