The Rosenberg is one of the best vineyard (=Riede) in the Carnuntum growing region. It is surrounded by forest and therefore benefits from relatively cool air even on very warm days, which is beneficial for the development of aromas and elegance in the wine.

Gerhard Markowitsch assigned the planted vines to the different soils of the Rosenberg. Merlot and Blaufränkisch grows in the gravelly and barren upper part, while Zweigelt feels particularly at home in the lower part, which is more loamy. The three grape varieties help to transport the character of the site into the glass in the best possible way.

In total, it is 55% Zweigelt, 30% Merlot and 15% Blaufränkisch that contribute to this long-lasting top wine. It is fermented only with the naturally occurring yeasts, and then matured in barrels of different sizes and ages.

2020 was another excellent red wine vintage, which caused few problems for the Carnuntum winemakers. The cool nights at harvest time and the completely healthy grapes made great things possible. As the press reviews for the Markowitsch Ried Rosenberg 2020 show:

Peter Moser from the Austrian wine magazine Falstaff awards 95/100 and writes: "Dark ruby garnet, opaque core, violet reflections, delicate lightening of the edges. Nuances of black fruit, fine Precious wood, delicate cassis and liquorice, tobacco nuances, attractive spiciness. Complex, ripe heart cherries, good freshness, ripe, supporting tannins, mineral-salty finish, some nougat, very good length, great aging potential."

A la Carte is even at 97/100 and the Vinaria Trophy draws the top mark 5/5 stars!
