Raats has specialized in the Chenin Blanc grape variety for white wines and is not only considered one of the best sources for this characteristic grape variety in South Africa. The vines are in the Polkadraai Hills in the South African wine-growing region of Stellenbosch, where Chenin Blanc traditionally plays a major role.
Bruwer Raats has taken the quality to heights that are really very rare to find. Raats was named Winery of the Year in South Africa in 2017 by the South African wine guide Platter.
The Original Chenin Blanc from Raats Family Wines does not come into contact with wood, it has intensive fruit aromas of ripe yellow apples and pears, and there is also a touch of the exotic in the form of pineapple and lime. On the palate it is full-bodied but also fresh, with a lively citrus flavor and a long finish where the fruity aromas of the fragrance reappear. Tastes young, but can also remain in the cellar for 3-4 years.
We particularly recommend this wine with sushi (always goes well with Chenin Blanc), curry dishes and crustaceans.
