Pouilly-Fuissé has always been the best AOP in Maconnais, located in the southernmost part of Burgundy. In 2020, 22 of the 217 individual sites were awarded the 1er Cru title for their outstanding natural properties. Thus, the first location classification in the Maconnais was created, which underlines the appreciation for these high-quality Chardonnay wines.
One of these 1er Cru sites is Au Vignerais in the municipality of Solutre-Pouilly, in which Jean Loron owns a significant share. It is at an altitude of 300m and has a stony clay-limestone soil, which gives the Chardonnay its elegance.
The fermentation takes place here at temperature-controlled. 40% of the wine then matures in new French oak barrels, the other 60% comes from steel tanks. Thus, the Pouilly-Fuissé Au Vignerais has a noticeable oak tone, which is always fine and supportive, so it does not dominate the wine. As I've heard of a noble Burgundy, it has a vibrant freshness despite its density and strength. You can enjoy it young, but you can also let it mature in the cellar for 5+ years without any problems.
As a food combination, we recommend this delicious Burgundy with crustaceans, quiches, white meat, poultry or grilled sea fish.
